First growth

After transplanting the tomato plant that I started last fall…………..(yes I tried to grow tomatoes over the winter…) into the raised bed this tiny tomato was the first harvest!! Writing “harvest” makes me feel like SUCH a homesteader, but I think that’s what you call it when you pinch the fruit off and use it or store it.

I had been preparing for this harvest for about 6 months…when the tomato finally turned a deep red we plucked it and sliced it for an amazing BLT. Worth the wait? Not really!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t recommend trying to plant tomatoes in the fall, but it was very rewarding that this guy made it through window sills, freezing temps when I forgot to bring it inside, and vacations where it didn’t get any water for days at time.

Below you can see the progression of my tomato plant. The first pictures were taken in early October 2023, and the last bright red tomato was plucked on March 25, 2024.
